2018 Domaine Philippe Foreau (Clos Naudin) Vouvray Moelleux Réserve

A fruit basket of baked pear, guava, banana, and notes of rosewater and orange blossom. Right now, the sugar dominates a bit. This is a rich and unctuous sweetie, but give it some time. 130 grams per liter residual sugar.

2018 Domaine Philippe Foreau (Clos Naudin) Vouvray Sec

The balance of fruit, mineral, and piercing acidity is seamless, with notes of pear, clay, and white floral blossoms. A core of salt and white pepper frame the long finish. Dry and crisp, even with 5 grams per liter residual sugar.

2017 Domaine Philippe Foreau (Clos Naudin) Vouvray Moelleaux

Deep golden in color. Lots of ripe apple, even Calvados-like notes, autumnal, fallen leaves, cinnamon and mulled spices. It’s pretty sweet but the palate is generous and inviting and the finish is straight and chalky. 60 grams per liter of residual sugar.

2016 Domaine Philippe Foreau (Clos Naudin) Vouvray Moelleux Réserve

Stands in contrast to the 2018 lighter and lithe, and much more seamlessness. Light golden in color. Pineapple, candied grapefruit, and a touch of smoke. Lively acidity, and so much energy and tension. This is a thrilling sweet wine. 130 grams per liter residual sugar.

2016 Domaine Philippe Foreau (Clos Naudin) Vouvray Sec

Foreau says they were lucky to have produced a dry wine in 2016 because of frost. Pushing the envelope of dry at 7 grams per liter residual sugar, but balanced by big, thrilling acidity. Expressive and lively, with aromas and flavors of grilled apple and yellow plum, peach, honey and acacia. Notes of smoke flow through to the long, salty finish. There’s a lot of tension here. An absolutely thrilling wine.
