Hello friends of Heirloom and happy summer.
Some of you know, I mentioned it a few times in early May, we hosted the sine qua non American importer Neal Rosenthal at the restaurant about a month ago for two very special events. The feedback from both the afternoon tasting and the dinner was terrific, and I in particular was thrilled that some of you were able to come, and meet Neal and hear him speak. I have found him for many years to be about the most compelling voice on the subject of wine and culture that we have in this country, and his perspective has quite a lot in common with many of our philosophies at the restaurant–in fact has informed a good deal of the way we approach wine here.
It is somewhat lengthy–about 75 minutes, but if you are interested in wine I think there’s a good chance you’ll find it provocative, challenging, perhaps fascinating. I hope you’ll enjoy watching it when you have an hour or so to give it, perhaps with a nice bottle of Carema or a pipe to smoke or popcorn or whatever might pair nicely with an interesting little video about wine.
Also, as something of a coda to our events with Neal last month, we scheduled a wine club tasting of some premier cru and grand cru Burgundies and a few other treats from the Rosenthal portfolio coming up at 5pm this Sunday, and have a few spots left. The cost is $100 per person and will feature 10 different very good wines, as well as some salad and housemade pizza. Send me a note if you might be interested to come.
I hope you’re having a great start to the summer and to see you soon.
