Simone Grands Carmes Blanc 2014

Posted on Posted in Chateau Simone, Occasional Thoughts

Kerry and I revisited this wine over the weekend, opening and drinking most of the bottle yesterday with an udon-based vegetable broth; then, again, tonight to observe the wine’s evolution. It is, actually, spectacularly good, a wine loaded with character, strongly lanolin, petroleum-laced, amidst the background menthol-pine aromatics and flavors. And, then in the finish there is a bitter lemon note. Quite compelling.

Frankly, I was anticipating disappointment. But the soul of Simone is there albeit without  the true complex drama that is essential to the ethereal Chateau Simone Palette Blanc. Nonetheless, this remains a wine worthy of one’s attention, a wine that has grown over time rather having diminished.
